Simply joy

John Atkinson Grimshaw "Iris" (1886)

"There are seconds, they only come five or six at a time, and you suddenly feel the presence of eternal harmony, fully achieved. It is nothing earthly; not that it's heavenly, but man cannot endure it in his earthly state. One must change physically or die. The feeling is clear and indisputable. As if you suddenly sense the whole of nature and suddenly say: yes, this is true. This is not tenderheartedness, but simply joy."

~ Fyodor Dostoevsky, The Devils

Be generous

During this season of gift giving, reflect on how you might practice generosity throughout the year. There are many ways to cultivate an attitude of generosity in daily life. Here are just a few that can be quite powerful:

Be generous with your attention
when you're listening to someone.

Be generous in celebrating another
person's happiness.

Be generous with your sympathy toward
someone who has experienced loss.

Be generous with your
respect of others.

Be generous with your
willingness to be helpful.

Full moon accompanies Christmas

Photo : Patrick Kobersky

Today's full moon will be the first to appear on a Christmas Day in 38 years - and it won't happen again until 2034, so you should take your chance to see this rare sight while you can.

This full moon is the last of the year, and is nicknamed the 'Full Cold Moon', since it occurs at the beginning of winter.

And if you happen to be marking Christmas by going to a nativity play, the large and bright moon will make a good stand-in for the Star of Bethlehem.

A Gift of Love

"Solstice" by Lucy Campbell

Winter Solstice: A Gift of Love

Maybe, it’s sacred to breathe slower,
walk softer, into the winterish nights
and let it seep into the shortened
days of ancient grey.

Maybe, it’s hypnotic to
study the fire’s flame
and watch candle lights glow
along an edgeless night’s frame.

Maybe, winterberries accent
the fields as crimson reminders
of wild saffron centered violets
as they slumber beneath the bitter chill.

And maybe I have taken
field and form of hibernation
into my cave, a nest of
cerulean and opaque hues of
blankets and quilts and softest of pillows;
a gathering of tea, the nectar of handhold splendor,
longing for silent whispers of fresh snow.

Maybe winter is my companion
and my comfort of much needed silence;
how I embrace her blackest of precious pearls
the graceful midnight’s turn of velvet and
down of warmth of knowing
rabbits sleep safe and softly below.

Maybe, I am able to burrow next to
my own soul’s deepest throes;
my heart aches to replenish and
my mind’s prism
is at last able to paint canvas
of infinite sky and speculative wonder.

And maybe, it is sacred to
rest under the artic chill
till springs lightness tugs me forth,
and my aged budding
is once again renewed.

Winter solstice 2015

"The mystery of darkness and divine light belongs to each of us and to the world. We are the world waiting in the darkness and we are the light waiting to be born. It is only too easy to see the darkness around us -- the forgetfulness of the sacred nature of creation, the destruction and desecration of our beautiful and suffering world. We should not avoid being aware of what we are doing to the world, but we need also to turn toward the light that is waiting within our own heart and the heart of the world. We need to hold this sacred light in our hearts and our life. We need to be the prayer for the world in this time of darkness."

–  Llewellyn Vaughan-Lee

Friendship

Art by Lucy Campbell

"There is almost a sensual longing for communion with others who have a large vision. The immense fulfillment of the friendship between those engaged in furthering the evolution of consciousness has a quality impossible to describe."

~ Pierre Teilhard de Chardin

Dance with Snow Flakes

via Khampa, a Tibetan friend, who wants to share it with the entire world. Let's dance for and with Tibet!

"We are born in the land of snow (Tibet), we have been with snow for thousands of years, and this is how we dance with snow flakes of winter."

You don't want to miss this, watch it!

Fenster geschlossen...

Fenster geschlossen

Herzen, vereist

Zeit, so kalt
wie Reif am Morgen

Adventsgedanken
unterkühlt
im Sturm der Zeit

doch das Eis der Herzen
kann man schmelzen

mit ein bisschen Wärme
wird Tau aus Eis

mitten in der Nacht ein Licht
angezündet
durch ein wenig

LIEBE
